The SXH MulchMaster cultivators (previously Komondor mulch cultivators) are a family of primary tillage tools for conservation tillage that are suitable for effectively cutting residue and incorporating it into the top soil in a single pass. The use of these mulch cultivators may substitute the combined use of disc harrows and plows under most soil conditions. The SXH MulchMaster features spring loaded shanks that may accommodate a wide variety of tillage tools including sweeps, twisted shovels, chisel spikes etc., which allow it to be effectively used for managing corn or wheat stubble.
The SXH MulchMaster cultivators have been developed by Seed-Imex Ltd, and are manufactured by Sokoró Ltd. in Hungary. The machines’ tillage tools are sourced from the USA where they have been well proven even under the most extreme soil conditions. Since the launch of the series, the SXH MulchMaster cultivators have become well recognized among primary tillage tools available on the Hungarian market for large farm or custom operators.
The structure and operation of SXH MulchMaster cultivators
- The first tillage tool set is two gangs of spring cushioned discs arranged in an adjustable V-shape. Across both of the gangs serrated and plain discs are alternating, which ensures efficient cutting of residue on the field surface. The working depth of the discs can be adjusted independently from that of the spring loaded shanks, thereby allowing for incremental soil loosening – leading to reduced power demand and fuel consumption.
- The second tillage too set is three rows of USA made spring loaded shanks with 500 kp opening tip force that can accommodate a variety of tillage tools such as sweeps, twisted shovels, chisel spikes etc. to suit the specific application’s needs. The 32” ground clearance and the generous spacing of the shanks provide plugging-free operation even under heavy residue conditions.
- The first row of the third tillage tool set are spring loaded rotary blades that effectively chops residue and incorporates it into the top soil. The final units of the SXH MulchMaster cultivators are the packing rollers that compact the soil to enhance its moisture retention ability. The SXH MulchMaster may be ordered with optional packing wheels or custom made roller packers.
The advantages of SXH MulchMaster's application
- A broad range of interchangeable tillage tools offers a variety of setups, which enable the application of the SXH MulchMaster cultivators in a range of tillage practices.
- Variable rate of residue incorporation through equipment setup and tillage tool combinations.
- Through packing the top soil, the creation of a mulch layer, and the incorporation of residue in the top soil, the application of this implement increases the moisture retention capacity of the soil.
- Using the twisted shovels the SXH MulchMaster breaks the hard layer of the soil created by the frequent use of disc harrows, increasing the soil’s water absorption capability.
- With the 16” wide sweeps (which feature constant cutting width) the SXH MulchMaster cuts the soil in its full working width, thus providing effective weed control in addition to quality wheat stubble management.
- Increases yield potential by increasing the concentration of organic matter in the root zone through residue incorporation.
- The SXH MulchMaster provides higher yield performance at lower fuel consumption and power demand when compared to plowing. As it also allows for reduced tillage farming, it offers an energy efficient alternative for conservation tillage.
Interchangeable tillage tools
The spring loaded shanks of the SXH MulchMaster may accommodate the following tillage tools:
- Low-crown sweeps: recommended primarily for wheat stubble management and seedbed preparation in sandy or loess type soils. Due to their design these low-crown sweeps maintain their 16” working width despite the wear that naturally occurs during operation. As such they cut through the full working width of the SXH MulchMaster providing effective weed control.
- Twisted shovels: recommended for corn and sunflower stubble management. These tillage tools turn the soil to bury part of the residue to increase the concentration of organic matter in the root zone thereby enhancing the moisture retention capability of the soil.
- Twisted shovels with wings: recommended for corn and sunflower stubble management. In addition to residue incorporation effect through turning the soil, the wings of these tillage tools provide weed control effect. As such, the SXH MulchMaster is suitable for seedbed preparation for wheat in a single pass.
- Chisel spikes with wings: recommended for use in hard and dry soil conditions. The chisel spikes break and penetrate the soil while the wings work to loosen and cut through the soil in the full working width of the implement for effective tillage and weed control.
